Khẩn: Ký kiến nghị phản đối thành phố Irvine, Ca, dự định kết nghĩa với TP Nha Trang của CSVN

Thành phố Irvine, thuộc Orange County, CA dự định kết nghĩa với TP Nha Trang của CSVN. Đây là một thách thức lớn đối với người Việt tỵ nạn CS nói chung, đồng bào tỵ nạn tại Orange County nói riêng.

Một Kiến Nghị phản đối đã được thiết lập do Ông Tyler Diep Giám Đốc, Midway City Sanitation Dist.; Thị Trưởng Tạ Đức Trí TP Westminster; Ông Michael Vỏ, Thị Trưởng Fountain Valley và cựu Nghị Viên và dân biểu Trần Thái Văn bảo trợ.

Một cuộc họp Hội Đồng Thị Xã Irvine sẽ được tổ chức vào lúc 3 giờ chiều thứ Ba, 8 tháng 4, 2014 tại City Hall Irvine bàn về vấn đề này. Thị trưởng Irvine cũng mời cộng đồng Viêt Nam đến tham dự.

Cộng Đồng VN cũng tổ chức chuyên chở đồng bào đến tham dự.

Petition to Irvine City Council

Dear Mayor Choi and Members of the City Council:

I oppose the City of Irvine entering into a ‘Friendship City’ relationship with the City of Nha Trang, Vietnam.

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a chronic abuser of human rights and religious freedom. The regime in Hanoi has terrorized and arrested countless political dissidents who dared to openly criticize the government’s shortcomings. The City of Nha Trang also participated in such human rights violation.

According to Human Rights Watch, in 2009, two Vietnamese reporters from Nha Trang was suspended from their jobs after they exposed the ongoing corruption in City Hall. Furthermore, Nha Trang officials participated in a crackdown against a peaceful assembly last May at the behest of the Communist Party.

Forming a ‘Friendship City’ relationship between Irvine and Nha Trang will be a direct insult to the Vietnamese American community in Orange County.

According to the latest census numbers, there are nearly 200,000 Vietnamese Americans and residents of Vietnamese descent living in Orange County, and about 8,000 of whom reside in Irvine. The vast majority of the Vietnamese came here as former victims and escapees of the very regime that Irvine is now considering a Friendship City relationship.

How can Irvine be friends with representatives of an oppressive government that still wages war against many of its own residents for peacefully expressing their basic rights for freedom and democracy?

This ill-advised consideration inflicts a deep emotional injury to my community, but equally important, represents a disregard of the principles of freedom and liberty that all of us, as Americans, would want to espouse around the world."

For these reasons, I oppose the City of Irvine entering into a ‘Friendship City’ relationship with the City of Nha Trang.
